Ryan Sims
Design leader from the Midwest Coast
Hello.
Born and raised in the Midwest, I developed a fascination for design when I got my first computer and a copy of Photoshop as a high school graduation gift. For nearly two decades my appreciation for gradients and whitespace, layout and type has yielded products that are elegant yet approachable. After years of leadership at Rdio, Adobe, and Stripe, I am now the Chief Design Officer at Duolingo.

Plantbook
Purchasing, planting, propagating, and parenting plants is a passion and hobby of mine. Plantbook is where I keep track of my collection of plants and propagations, along with best care practices and helpful tips for propagating them.
Learning a language is hard, so we made it fun. All you need is a screen, a few minutes a day, and Duolingo, the free app that’s used by more than 40 million people each day all around the world.

Photobook
In 2024, I got a Leica M11, my first “serious” camera. I've always been photography-curious but never fancied myself a photographer. Here is my book of photos taken with Leica M11, Fujifilm X70, and iPhone cameras.
Stripe is a technology company that builds economic infrastructure for the internet. Businesses of every size—from new startups to public companies—use their software to accept payments and manage their businesses online.
Creative Cloud is a collection of 20+ desktop and mobile apps and services for photography, design, video, web, UX and more. Take your ideas to new places with Photoshop on the iPad, draw and paint with Fresco, and design for 3D and AR.
Rdio was a streaming music service—one of the first of its kind, launching in the US and Canada before Spotify and Soundcloud. I designed the first version of the product and later became the Head of Design, growing and leading a small but mighty team of talented designers and writers.
